The Bay Lights was created by artist Leo Villareal in partnership with Illuminate (previously Illimunate the Art). Leo is an American artist from New Mexico living and working in New York City. His work combines LED lights and encoded computer programming to create illuminated displays. With Google, FireFox, Salesforce and many others calling San Francisco home, this LED illumination is the perfect representation of the City, the hub of tech outside Silicon Valley – modern and state of the art. Each light has it’s own IP address, where each individual address works with the other to create patterns in the lights that go across the bridge. It is quite spectacular!

The Bay Lightswould not be without the efforts of Illuminate. With the aim to alter the arc of human history through the creation of transformational works of public art, their mission is to produce contemporary art with civic impact, social activation and global reach to stimulate a culture of generosity and collaboration. The Bay Lights is the epitome of that – and we at Waterbar are happy to be a part of it.
